Could “American Idol” actually be better than ever in its tenth season?
New judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez were surprisingly cool, full of personality and positive energy, and together with Randy Jackson, they look like they’re having a ball together.
Tyler adds serious rock star muscle, and has a zany loopy-ness that makes me want to know what he’s going to say or do next. And even though he’s a 62-year-old grandfather, he’s definitely the troublemaker on the panel.
Like J.Lo, he’s sweet, too, so people aren’t going away as crushed as they were under Simon’s regime.
Another encouraging sign:Could 'American Idol' 2011 be the best season ever?
According to Ryan Seacrest, more people than ever auditioned, which means there’s tons of talent to choose from. Maybe more folks showed up because the age was lowered to 15. Certainly, there were a few 15-year-olds that were pretty dazzling, including Kenzie Palmer, who had a lovely, unusual voice. She’s one to watch.
I’m also keeping my eye on 16-year-old New Yorker Robbie Rosen and the turbo-perky Victoria Huggins, also 16, the Southern belle whom Randy said boasted “the most personality ever on ‘Idol.’” Little Miss Sunshine not only spread the Vitamin D, she was also a wonderful, stand-in-her-shoes singer.Could 'American Idol' 2011 be the best season ever?
